LEARN HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR BLOG!

This Blog offers you basic tutorials on how to improve your blog quality, search
engine rankings and how to get more visitors.By following our tips your blog or
website can become search engine friendly.
You have to note that optimization for search engines is long process that take
lot of time and effort, but your website or blog will show some amazing results
over time.

16 Tips Of Traffic

You've got your blog set up and you've started posting pithy, useful information that
your niche market would benefit from and enjoy. Days go by, you keep publishing,
but no one comments and your traffic stats are barely registering. What do you do?

Like any website you own, you must do some blog promotion to start driving traffic
to your site. Here are 16 steps, in no particular order of importance, that you can
start doing now to get traffic moving to your blog.

1. Set up a Bloglet subscription form on your blog and invite everyone in your
network to subscribe: family, friends, colleagues, clients, associates.

2. Set up a feed on MyYahoo.com so your site gets regularly spidered by the
    Yahoo search engine

3. Read and comment on other blogs that are in your target niche. Don't write
things like "nice blog" or "great post." Write intelligent, useful comments with
    a link to your blog.

4. Use Ping-0-matic to ping blog directories. Do this every time you publish.

5. Submit your blog to traditional search engines.

6. Submit your blog to blog directories.

Tip: Create a form to track your submissions; this can take several hours when you
first start so schedule an hour a day for submitting or hire a VA to do it for you.

7. Add a link to your blog in your email signature file.

8. Put a link to your blog on every page of your website.

9. If you publish a newsletter, make sure you have a link to your blog in every issue.

10. Include a link to your blog as a standard part of all outgoing correspondence
such as autoresponder sequences, sales letters, reports, white papers, etc.

11. Print your blog URL on your business cards, brochures and flyers.

12. Make sure you have an RSS feed URL that people can subscribe to.
The acronym RSS means Rich Site Summary, or some may consider its meaning
as Really Simple Syndication. It is a document type that lists updates of websites
or blogs available for syndication. These RSS documents (also known as 'feeds')
may be read using aggregators (news readers). RSS feeds may show headlines
only or both headlines and summaries.

13. Post often to keep attracting your subscribers to come back and refer you to
others in their networks; include links to other blogs, articles and websites in your
      posts.

14. Use Trackback links when you quote or refer to other blog posts.
What isTrackBack? Essentially what this does is send a message from one server
to another server letting it know you have posted a reference to their post. The
beauty is that a link to your blog is now included on their site.

15. Write articles to post around the web in article directories. Include a link to
your blog in the author info box (See example in our signature below).

16. Make a commitment to blog everyday. 10 minutes a day can help increase
your traffic as new content attracts search engine spiders. Put it on your calendar
as a task every day at the same time.

Do It Yourself Search Engine Optimization

A search engine optimization campaign can easily be divided in three fundamental stages:
  1. Choose the right keywords (keyword optimization)
  2. Optimize your pages for your selected keywords (web page optimization), and
  3. Get quality inbound links to your pages (off-site factors).
In the next few pages, we will teach you how to follow a systematic approach to complete these three steps, using free tools available on the net.

PART I: Keyword Optimization

The first step in a search engine optimization campaign is to choose your keywords or keyphrases for each of your web pages.  Keywords are the terms that search engine users type in the search box to conduct a query. The right keywords are those that:
  1. clearly describe the purpose and content of your site, and,
  2. allow your site to show up as close to the first results page as possible.
A good position doesn't depend only on your choice of keywords.  It also depends on how well do you position those keywords in your web page, and how many quality external pages link to you.  However, choosing the wrong keywords can throw off your entire search engine optimization strategy, so you need to invest a few hours and make sure you do it right.
Let's start with your homepage.  Look at it carefully and write down the words and phrases that best define your site.  Try to form two or three word phrases, since competition for one-word keyphrases is fierce, and it is virtually impossible to get a top position for them.  That is why, from now on, we will talk about keyphrases, not keywords.  Once you have developed your list of potential keyphrases you are ready for the next step: to analyze the demand and supply for those keyphrases, and choose the best ones (those with good demand and not enough supply).
We will first check the demand for your selected keyphrases. For this, we will go to Overture's Search Term Suggestion Tool:
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
Overture is a popular pay-per-click search engine.  You will then type each of the keyphrases you selected, and see how many people search for those terms. This tool will show you only those searches conducted in Overture (and only in one month time).   However, the relative popularity of each search term will be very similar in other search engines as well.  In addition to telling you if your selected keyphrases are popular, this tool will show you other keyphrases that you may not have thought about, which may even be more relevant to your site.
For example, if your first keyphrase was "Italian Restaurant", the Search Term Suggestion Tool will also display other popular search terms, like: "Gourmet Italian Restaurant", "Northern Italian Restaurant", "Italian Restaurant Pizzeria", "Italian Restaurant Miami", etc.  You may also try other keyphrases, for example: "Italian Cuisine", and come up with more specific keyphrases, like: "Fine Italian Cuisine", "Italian Cuisine Miami", "Northern Italian Cuisine", "Italian Cuisine Fine Dining", "Gourmet Italian Cuisine", etc.
What you have done is to validate and enlarge your pool of popular, in-demand, potential keyphrases for your web page. The next step is to check the supply, or, in other words, to see how much competition there is for your selected keywords.  Naturally, you want to focus on keyphrases where competition is less fierce. For example, choosing "Italian Restaurant" alone will certainly hurt you.  There are so many of them that your chances of showing up in an advantageous position within the search results are pretty slim.
Having said that, get your list of keyphrases, go to Google ( http://www.google.com/  ) and type-in each of them in the search box.  Enter your keyphrases within quotation marks (to filter-out less relevant results), and see how many results each individual query produces, making a note of those with a relatively small number of results (less competition). You will stick with the keyphrase that:
  1. Best describes the topic and content of your page
  2. Is a popular search term according to Overture's Search Term Suggestion Tool.
  3. Generates a relatively small number of results after performing the Google search.
If "Gourmet Italian Restaurant" is the keyphrase that best meets these three criteria, it will become your primary keyphrase. To get even better results, you can choose a second keyphrase to make your page more relevant to an even more specific niche. For example, if your restaurant is in Miami, you can consider "Miami" a second keyphrase.  Once you have chosen the keyphrases for you homepage, do the same for the other pages on your site.
After this, you will take your selected keyphrases and optimize your pages heavily for them.  This involves placing them in strategic locations in the title, headings and body of each page, as we will see in Part II: Web Page Optimization.

PART II: Web Page Optimization

Once you have chosen your keyphrases, the next stage is to optimize your page for those keyphrases. You do that by positioning your keywords in strategic locations within your page. What follows is a checklist of tips and steps you must follow to optimize your page:
Submit Your Website To Over 3000 Directories

  • Get listed in Yahoo!:  Submissions to Yahoo! are no longer free for commercial sites (your site can be reviewed in about a week for a fee of $299 although inclusion in the directory is not guaranteed.  However, if you do get accepted, the $299 fee will be due every year if you want your site to continue to be listed). A link from Yahoo’s directory is still one of the best links you can get, and it is worth the money you spend getting listed. For tips on getting listed in Yahoo! go to: http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/  .

  • Submit articles:  There are many sites where you can publish articles in your field of expertise. This is a great way to establish yourself as an expert and to drive quality traffic to your site. The key is to include your resource box at the end of your article. A resource box is a small paragraph with a brief description of you and your business, where you include a link to your site. This way, every time somebody picks up your article and publishes it in their website or newsletter, your link will be there for readers and search engines to see and follow. For tips of getting traffic by writing articles you can visit: http://www.theinternetdigest.net/archive/write.html   .

  • Exchange links with reputable sites: You must try to find quality sites that are compatible to your site's topic (not direct competitors), and ask the webmaster for a link exchange. This will give you highly targeted traffic and will improve your score with the search engines. What is SEO

    SEO TRAINING

On Page optimization to get better ranking part1

Most important factor on your website must be your content, having a
quality blog or website means providing your visitors fresh and unique
content that is relevant to your choosen subject, because content is king.
If you have quality content it is more likely someone will link to you,
getting you traffic, better page rank, more visitors and more important blog/
    web site.

Quality content = more visitors = more natural backilinks = better pagerank
    = better ranking

In this post we will discuss On page Seo factors like:
    -Interlinking your web pages
    -Unique content on every page
-Unique Meta tags for each page
    -Proper use of H1-H6 tags
    -Proper url setup
-Use of Alt tags and descriptive title on images
-proper use of ancohor text when interlinking
-making sure that there is only one version of page available
    -proper use of rel="nofollow"
-Making sure your code is valid

Interlinking your pages means that you have to set up navigation on your
web site correctly so any web page on your web site can be accessed from
any other page. This is important so users as well as robots can reach every
signle web page on your web site.

Unique content is very important,if you have indetical content on different
web pages you can even get penalty for duplicate content,so keep that in mind!

It is best if you can set up unique meta Title and Meta description for every
single post or web page,if you are using blogging platforms like blogger you
will probably need to make code tweaks in template code to make this work.
There are many tutorials on how to do this.

Headlines on web pages should be put in code tags like tags like this <h1>Big
Title</h1>,it is advisable that you have only one h1 title. In pratice the
minimum you should use would be one h1 tag for main title of your web page
or blog and h2 for any small titles. The proper use would be to use h titles
    in hierarchy like this(Html example):

    <h1>Big Title</h1>

    <h2>1.Title</h2>
    <p>Content</p>
    <h3>1.1 Title</h3>
    <p>Content</p>
    <h4>1.1.1 Title</h4>
    <p>Content</p>

On Page optimization to get better ranking part 2

Picking the right domain or in case of blogs subdomain is one of the most
important factors of having sucesfull blog,if you can afford,it would be best
to have paid domain name like .com .net or .org.Those domains from my
experience rank better from free domains and other paid domains(note
that this is my subjective opinion and don't have to be true).Anyway which
ever domain you choose make sure that first part of url is your keyword
(if possible, best would be if you can take url like this:www.yourkeyword.com
or www.your-keyword.com).Since most single keywords have lot of
competition and you will hardly beat web site that have been on first place
of search engine for ages, try to pick longer url and keywords,or concentrate
on one are of main keyword(example: if you want to write about games,it
would be better to concentrate only on action games and make those your
keywords).Sometimes picking longer urls and phrases/keywords can get you
very high in search engine results with reasonable amount of vistors.

Using descriptive names and alt tags when you put images on your web page
or in post is very important. It can get your web site better overall ranking
because of extra keywords in the description and name of picture.so if you
have a gaming blog/web site and you put picture of action game on it it
would be best that you name it action-game.jpg instead of DSC10345.jpg.
This way you can get extra traffic trough Google Image search.

Since robots cannot read images they rely on name and alt tag and text
around image to get idea what is displayed in image. If you put good relevant
description in images, your images will rank better in image search and your
blog overall ranking in search results will improve.

    Example of using alt tag(HTML):
<img alt="In the sky flies a red flag with a white cross whose vertical bar is
    shifted toward the flagpole."
         src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/83/
    Dannebrog.jpg/180px-Dannebrog.jpg"
         width="180" height="135" />

Proper use of anchor text can be hard to coordinate, when you link your web
page from another page on your website make sure you put anchor text that
best describes it,it's hard to explain so i will show you on example
    HTML example):

    This would be ok:
    <p>Check out our new <a href="http://www.example.com/examplepage.
    html">Action Game</a></p>
    This would be wrong:
<p>To check out our new Action game <a href="http://www.example.com/
    examplepage.html">Click Here</a></p>

In this good case our example page would be linked with keyword "Action
Game" which will give it overall better ranking in search engine results,
while in the wrong case our example page would be linked with keyword
"Click Here" which would be useless to improve your ranking.

If you have blog on subdomain like .blogspot or on free domain you probably
should not worry about next problem but if have paid domain, you should
    resolve this ASAP.
When you buy domain it can be acessed trough two different addresses:
http://www.example.com and http://example.com,you have to choose
one of them because it can cause alot of damage.First of all robots can crawl
both versions and figure out that these two are identical web sites and you
can get penalty for duplicate content, second problem is that some people
might link to www version and others to non-www version so your rankings
will get SPLIT in half between these two versions of site and neither will
rank good in search results.Thats why you have to set up 301-redirect from
non-www version to www or vice versa. You can read details on how to do this
    at Fresh promo 301-redirect.

If you must put link to some suspicious sites it is best to use rel="nofollow"
because bad website neighborhood can hurt your rankings.

If there is something wrong in your code(even if site looks normal) it can
make robots unable to crawl it correctly. So you might want to verify that
your web site code is correct at W3C Validator.

    Basics about Meta Tags

Meta tags or Meta Elements are HTML and XHMTL elements that provide
information about Web Page. Most used meta tags are: Title,Description,
Keywords,Author etc..Altought in most cases only Meta Title and Description
are used.Meta tags also contain technical data about web page code
language, charset and to allow or disallow crawling of web page by different
    search engine robots.

Robots(Web crawlers,Web spiders) are computer programs used by
search engines that creates copy of crawled web page in search engine
index.Index is database of copied web pages crawled by robot.Index is
used by search engines to provide user almost instant results when they
    are searching the internet.

Meta tags(Title and Description, sometimes Keywords) are one of the biggest
factors that shows search engines what your web page is about.Web pages
with no meta tags are seen in eyes of robots like low priority web pages and
therefore they mostly will rank at end of search results for given query.

On most blogging platforms Meta Title and Description can be set in options
of blog,so there is no need to change any source code of blog.
If you are owner of blog or website you can use tools like meta blog stats to
ensure that your meta tags are set up correctly.Your meta tags should be
related to your website or blogs content.

If you host blog for example about gaming, you should metion words like games
or gaming in your meta title and description so that the users and the robosts
know what your blog is about. This way Serach engine will give you better place
in Search results for keyword gaming or games, and the users will have better
idea on what to expect on your blog before they enter.

So you don't only write your meta tags for robots, you write it for human
    visitors too.
Keep in mind that if you put something like this:"Games,Gaming,Gamers,
Fun games" as yout meta Description you will get penalty by search engines
for keyword stuffing, and probably users wont click your site form search
engine results if they see unattractive text like that in description.

Keyword stuffing is action where user tries to manipulate search engine
results by putting alot of keywords in title, description and body of the page,
making the page unreadable for human visitor in exchange for higher ranking
in the search engine results.Search engines algotihm has evolved trought the
years and is now fully capable to recognize when someone is trying to do this,
some users have done keyword stuffing by putting keywords in the bottom of
page and putting it in the same color as web page background, that way they
did stuffing and it doesn't bother visitor to read normal text in body,in most
cases visitor can't notice that web page is doing keyword stuffing, luckly
agian search engine algoritam is designed to recognize this and people caught
using this tehniques can get they web site or blog banned permenatly from
    search engines.

Almost all search engines(Bing,Yahoo,Google..) today uses only Title and
Description Meta tag while Keyword meta tag is only used by Yahoo.

For optimal results your meta tags should look like this:

    <title>Site name - Page title - Keyword description</title>
<meta name="description" content="Describe the content of the page here
    in short using relevant words"

Basics about Optimization for Search engines

Most bloggers quit updating their blogs because of low traffic, having a blog is not
just putting new content or reuglar basis.Putting new content is only half of the job
of having a sucessfull blog, other part of job is to ensure your blog gets visitors.
There are two types of traffic: paid and unpaid.Paid traffic comes trough advertising
on other websites and is only usefull if you can make more money with your blog or
website than what you pay for advertising.
Unpaid or organic traffic comes from search engines and other web sites or blogs that
havelink to your blog/web site. This is the best traffic because you can be sure that
people will only come to your blog if they are really interested in content rather than
    accidently clicking on ads.
Most webmasters and bloggers aim for organic search engine traffic because of that.
There is whole area in marketing that deals with website rankings in search engines
and its called  Search engine optimization or SEO.
Serach Engine Optimization or SEO is technique that is used to get the best available
spot in SERP(Search engine Result Page) for choosen keyword.SEO involves many
factors that must be improved to get higher rankings. It's lot harder to do SEO on blog
because of limited acess to code. There are many things that blogger or webmaster
should watch for if they want to get good place in search engine results.

Better place in Search Engine = More Visitors.

SEO is devided in two sections - On page SEO
                                   - Off page SEO

On page SEO involves any factors that can be changed on page or in the source code
of page such as Meta tags,Right use of H1-H6 titles,Keyword density and so on,
and Off page seo involves some factors that can be changed outside of page such
as Number of backlinks your website or blog gets,Google PageRank..etc.

Backliniks are links that lead to your blog/post/web site/web page from some other
web site or blog. Backliniks can be DoFollow or NoFollow.DoFollow links pass
PageRank from page that links to you and your Web site or Blog.No Follow
    backlinks are useless.

This is how NoFollow backlinks look like in HTML code:
    <a href="http://www.example.com/" rel="nofollow">Link text</a>

This is how DoFollow backlinks look like in HTML code(only missing the
    rel="nofollow" attribute):
    <a href="http://www.example.com/">Link text</a>

PageRank is algorithm that was devloped by Larry Page and it shows importance
of the web page by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms.
PageRank is shown with numbers that go from lowest 0 to highest 10(note that
there are only few websites with PageRank 10 such as Facebook,Google..)

PageRank is only relevant for Google Search engine and it can be checked by
installing Google Toolbar on your web browser and going to web site wich PageRank
you would like to know.Toolbar  PageRank is updated once evry three months or
close to that while real internal PageRank of websites is updated on constantly.

    Learning HTML

    Chapter 1

    Introduction to HTML

    What is an HTML File?

    • HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language
    • An HTML file is a text file containing small markup tags
    • The markup tags tell the Web browser how to display the page
    • An HTML file must have an htm or html file extension
    • An HTML file can be created using a simple text editor

Do You Want to Try It?

If you are running Windows, start Notepad.
If you are on a Mac, start SimpleText.
In OSX start TextEdit and change the following preferences: Open the "Format" menu and select "Plain text" instead of "Rich text". Then open the "Preferences" window under the "Text Edit" menu and select "Ignore rich text commands in HTML files". Your HTML code will probably not work if you do not change the preferences above!
    Type in the following text:

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Title of page</title>
    </head>
    <body>
This is my first homepage. <b>This text is bold</b>
    </body>
    </html>
    Save the file as "mypage.htm".
Start your Internet browser. Select "Open" (or "Open Page") in the File menu of your browser. A dialog box will appear. Select "Browse" (or "Choose File") and locate the HTML file you just created - "mypage.htm" - select it and click "Open". Now you should see an address in the dialog box, for example "C:\MyDocuments\mypage.htm". Click OK, and the browser will display the page.

    Example Explained

The first tag in your HTML document is <html>. This tag tells your browser that this is the start of an HTML document. The last tag in your document is </html>. This tag tells your browser that this is the end of the HTML document.
The text between the <head> tag and the </head> tag is header information. Header information is not displayed in the browser window.
The text between the <title> tags is the title of your document. The title is displayed in your browser's caption.
The text between the <body> tags is the text that will be displayed in your browser.
The text between the <b> and </b> tags will be displayed in a bold font.

    HTM or HTML Extension?

When you save an HTML file, you can use either the .htm or the .html extension. We have used .htm in our examples. It might be a bad habit inherited from the past when some of the commonly used software only allowed three letter extensions.
With newer software we think it will be perfectly safe to use .html.

    Note on HTML Editors:

You can easily edit HTML files using a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor like FrontPage or Dreamweaver, instead of writing your markup tags in a plain text file.
However, if you want to be a skillful Web developer, we strongly recommend that you use a plain text editor to learn your primer HTML.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: After I have edited an HTML file, I cannot view the result in my browser. Why?
    A:
Make sure that you have saved the file with a proper name and extension like "c:\mypage.htm". Also make sure that you use the same name when you open the file in your browser.
Q: I have edited an HTML file, but the changes don't show in the browser. Why?
    A:
A browser caches pages so it doesn't have to read the same page twice. When you have modified a page, the browser doesn't know that. Use the browser's refresh/reload button to force the browser to reload the page.
Q: What browser should I use?
    A:
You can do all the training with all of the well-known browsers, like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, or Opera. However, some of the examples in our advanced classes require the latest versions of the browsers.
Q: Does my computer have to run Windows? What about a Mac?
    A:
You can do all your training on a non-Windows computer like a Mac.

    Chapter 2

    HTML Elements

HTML documents are text files made up of HTML elements.
HTML elements are defined using HTML tags.

    HTML Tags

    • HTML tags are used to mark-up HTML elements
    • HTML tags are surrounded by the two characters < and >
    • The surrounding characters are called angle brackets
    • HTML tags normally come in pairs like <b> and </b>
    • The first tag in a pair is the start tag, the second tag is the end tag
    • The text between the start and end tags is the element content
    • HTML tags are not case sensitive, <b> means the same as <B>

    HTML Elements

Remember the HTML example from the previous page:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Title of page</title>
    </head>
    <body>
This is my first homepage. <b>This text is bold</b>
    </body>
    </html>
    This is an HTML element:
    <b>This text is bold</b>
The HTML element starts with a start tag: <b>
The content of the HTML element is: This text is bold
The HTML element ends with an end tag: </b>
The purpose of the <b> tag is to define an HTML element that should be displayed as bold.
This is also an HTML element:
    <body>
This is my first homepage. <b>This text is bold</b>
    </body>
This HTML element starts with the start tag <body>, and ends with the end tag </body>.
The purpose of the <body> tag is to define the HTML element that contains the body of the HTML document.

Why do We Use Lowercase Tags?

We have just said that HTML tags are not case sensitive: <B> means the same as <b>. If you surf the Web, you will notice that plenty of web sites use uppercase HTML tags in their source code. We always use lowercase tags. Why?
If you want to follow the latest web standards, you should always use lowercase tags. (the next generation HTML) demands lowercase tags.

    Chapter 3

    Basic HTML Tags

The most important tags in HTML are tags that define headings, paragraphs and line breaks.
The best way to learn HTML is to work with examples. We have created a very nice HTML editor for you. With this editor, you can edit the HTML source code if you like, and click on a test button to view the result.

    Try it Yourself - Examples

    A very simple HTML document
This example is a very simple HTML document, with only a minimum of HTML tags. It demonstrates how the text inside a body element is displayed in the browser.
    Simple paragraphs
This example demonstrates how the text inside paragraph elements is displayed in the browser.
(You can find more examples at the bottom of this page)

    Headings

Headings are defined with the <h1> to <h6> tags. <h1> defines the largest heading. <h6> defines the smallest heading.
    <h1>This is a heading</h1>
    <h2>This is a heading</h2>
    <h3>This is a heading</h3>
    <h4>This is a heading</h4>
    <h5>This is a heading</h5>
    <h6>This is a heading</h6>
HTML automatically adds an extra blank line before and after a heading.

    Paragraphs

Paragraphs are defined with the <p> tag.
    <p>This is a paragraph</p>
    <p>This is another paragraph</p>
HTML automatically adds an extra blank line before and after a paragraph.

    Don't Forget the Closing Tag

You might have noticed that paragraphs can be written without end tags </p>:
    <p>This is a paragraph
    <p>This is another paragraph
The example above will work in most browsers, but don't rely on it. Future version of HTML will not allow you to skip ANY end tags.
Closing all HTML elements with an end tag is a future proof way of writing HTML. It also makes the code easier to understand (read and browse) when you to mark both where an element starts and where it ends.

    Line Breaks

The <br> tag is used when you want to break a line, but don't want to start a new paragraph. The <br> tag forces a line break wherever you place it.
    <p>This <br> is a para<br>graph with line breaks</p>
    Try it yourself
The <br> tag is an empty tag. It has no end tag like </br>, since a closing tag doesn't make any sense.

    <br> or <br />

More and more often you will see the <br> tag written like this: <br />
Because the <br> tag has no end tag (or closing tag), it breaks one of the rules for future HTML (the XML based XHTML), namely that all elements must be closed.
Writing it like <br /> is a future proof way of closing (or ending) the tag inside the opening tag, accepted by both HTML and XML.

    Comments in HTML

The comment tag is used to insert a comment in the HTML source code. A comment will be ignored by the browser. You can use comments to explain your code, which can help you when you edit the source code at a later date.
    <!-- This is a comment -->
Note that you need an exclamation point after the opening bracket, but not before the closing bracket.

    Recap on HTML Elements

    • Each HTML element has an element name (body, h1, p, br)
    • The start tag is the name surrounded by angle brackets: <h1>
    • The end tag is a slash and the name surrounded by angle brackets </h1>
    • The element content occurs between the start tag and the end tag
    • Some HTML elements have no content
    • Some HTML elements have no end tag

    Basic Notes - Useful Tips

When you write HTML text, you can never be sure how the text is displayed in another browser. Some people have large computer displays, some have small. The text will be reformatted every time the user resizes his window. Never try to format the text in your editor by adding empty lines and spaces to the text.
HTML will truncate the spaces in your text. Any number of spaces count as one. Some extra information: In HTML a new line counts as one space.
Using empty paragraphs <p> to insert blank lines is a bad habit. Use the <br> tag instead. (But don't use the <br> tag to create lists. Wait until you have learned about HTML lists.)
HTML automatically adds an extra blank line before and after some elements, like before and after a paragraph, and before and after a heading.
We use a horizontal rule (the <hr> tag), to separate the sections in our tutorials.
